like a pool of deadness

Ahh. life. You can really throw us lemons sometimes. Sorry not to have posted lately. I have been dealing with the fact that the prospective house to buy has now become a sinkhole of time, money and effort with possibly nothing to show. Unfortunately I am pretty good with stress and have been avoiding everything with laugh and whimsy the whole holiday weekend long so's not all bad. Here is a sketch that was very popular at the show last weekend. It's been a week? Where's my next comic?? Coming! All coming soon!! Also if you don't have an issue and live in the area they are now available at Casablanca Comics in Portland, ME and you can always feel free to send me a request by email or mail a check for $4.00 to 185 Clark St. # 2 Portland, ME 04102. hugh.tims@gmail.com

Cat Dancer

This is the "that guy in Portland who dresses up like a cat and dances with red wings/streamers with a fanny pack playing classical and circus music" video from the show this weekend. Lots of people never know what to make of this guy. I had a good conversation with Sarah Searle that we need to know him better because we need to understand his p.o.v. After all guys who feel like they should dress up like animals or wear body suits are supposed to be our role models right? Hey I know I've done it before. I'll tell you that it's very freeing and kids really respond the best because they are pure and stuff and recognize the coolness of playing. video

every ending has a..

great big beginning. I am determined to set out on the story that is brewing in my head for issue 2 of Two Spirit Deal! I drew this at the end of the festival Sunday because I really just wanted to draw Silver Surfer. No one bought it or basically the show was over at that point so I included a lament about his motion picture treatment. Sigh. Oh well- on with the future!

My First Show

So I was very very psyched. What can I tell you? It feels very good. It feels like I've been afraid to really get my hands dirty for a very long time and that I woke up one morning and found my entire body covered in creative dirt. You go to a con and you can get positive and negative stuff but you always learn something from the pros and you take the good stuff home to help you work. The shows behind the tables are very much the same, but the camaraderie you feel with fellow creators even though you don't get the chance to look at their stuff is exceptional. Trading your book with someone else is so fun in comicbookdom. I want to do comics all day forever. Ahh. life. one day I'll be published without worry. Jon said I can't post stuff about him on Facebook, but he never said anything about here so here goes- He will take ballroom dancing classes and master dance if I "in his words" get a large corporate comic book publishing house to publish my work and give me lots of money. You heard it here first folks. The race is on! Oh and here is the excellent piece I got from Joe Staten. What an exceptional treat it was to sit by him and his lovely wife. wahoo!

Comic love

So I'm so in love with my comic and the work I've done and at the same time I'm having a hard time understanding how I'll do this for the rest of my life. My lord in heaven does it take a long time to do a good job. I guess it is even worse when you are on your own. One of the most trying weeks of my life will all have been worth it soon enough though. You have got to feed the creative beast!

Betta Comics is back

Hey there guys. Thanks for sticking with me through this exhilirating and trying time. I have completed the comic book! It's up to me now to tie some ends in here and there so I can be ready on Sunday. I look forward to seein' yalls. SPOILER WARNING FOR WOLVERINE: THE MOVIE Just got back from my reward that was seeing Wolverine. My review is- good but silly. I can't really say I'm blown away or super impressed but I have things I liked. Hood wasn't really that bad- I think the writing was what was really bad and if you add some bad actors then you have what is badness. Why add the cameo characters? The most frustrating thing is to try and see what or who it is and then be like-- I hope it isn't this character because if it is they got it all wrong. Hey check out my pink hair extension-- I'm a mutant! Over here! Stewart! Stop with the face-lifts! He is becoming Joan Rivers!! Gambit! I like, but don't pull a Halle Berry and half commit to the accent. Just do it or don't. I will respect you more if you do it though. Poor Jackman has to do Canadian 24/7. Lastly- the worst part of rushed hero movies is the lack of traveling exposition. Let me know how you get from point a to point b! I was trying to figure out where the hell the Weapon X lab was supposed to be. Wasn't it at Alkali Lake? How did that become a New Zealand waterfall?? How did Wolverine get to Las Vegas from New Zealand? sigh. Secondly I didn't think the effects were that bad-- they actually looked worse in the trailer. I liked Weapon X in the beginning and wanted more of that. Title sequence was good too. Jackman has a great handle on this character. He is Wolverine. Liev is Sabretooth. Dude was so convincing that I actually was pulling for Sabes to get some adamantium and his own movie (with Birdy!). Deadpool do me proud in a new movie but grow some hair. Well designed your characters look was not. Cinematography RULED. The long pan from the sky into the woods that was just a zoom lens that came in quick was hot- The Shining hot. Silver fox was also hot. Beautiful shots of the Rockies and the lumberjacks. I can't remember the last time I wanted to become a Canadian was. Ok so maybe I can. Since I'm not in the director's chair yet I have some advice for the next movie. Give Wolverine his damned mask and outfit, face off against Silver Sam and Deathstrike and make the whole thing in Mandarin with subtitles. You will strike gold.

Free Comic Book DAY!

It is a gorgeous day and I took part-- I did. Right now though I'm determined to get this comic book done so I can go see Wolverine as a reward. I know I know. Fanboys and critics are giving the thumbs down but it's a Wolverine movie and that makes me have to see it by law. This is a little bit of a re-designed Anna Marie with the 90's version in the skintights and remember that mini-leather jacket Lee gave her? Well that was cute even if it couldn't cover her ginormous breasts. My other favorite version had Chris Bachalo (one of my all-time favorite artists)give her a cool hobbit hoodie with a white border. So I gave her a hoodie that is too small. More to come.
